DEAR GOD WHY

We’ve got a beautiful bird nest happening in one of our fake-plant flowerpots hanging out on the patio. I think they’re just common house sparrow eggs, but they’re gorgeous! My mom took the pot off of the hook it was hanging from and scared the mother bird off, so I snapped a quick pic, scolded my mom for scaring the mother bird, and hung the nest back up.

Later that night it rained, so I went outside to make sure the nest was protected from the rain. It was! And Mom Bird was in the nest asleep, keeping her little darlings warm :} I managed to get a picture of her without waking her up.

Today I peeked at the nest again while I was hanging up a bird feeder (totally spoiling the little ones and Mom Bird already) (what type of seeds/bird feed do sparrows eat?! I put finch seed in there) and I saw that Mom Bird had lined the nest with some feathery fluff! It looked so soft and fluffy. I didn’t have my phone with me, unfortunately, and I didn’t want to spend too much time around the nest and freak out Mom Bird in case she came back.

I’m torn between naming the eggs:

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May, and The Stig,

or:

Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor.

Either way, they will be trained as my evil minions once they hatch XD

EDITED to add:

okay I guess I should clarify something XD I live in a fairly “paved-over” suburban area of Southern California, where I don’t exactly see many animals/birds ;p There’s a park right across the street from me where there are plenty of squirrels, rabbits, birds, raccoons, possums, and even coyotes and foxes, but they don’t exactly mingle with humans often or venture into the surrounding neighborhoods. XD So, we don’t really see wild animals that often, and although I HEAR birds chirping all of the time, I don’t think I’ve actually SEEN an actual for-reals bird nest with for-reals bird eggs in it in my entire LIFE XD so, that’s why I’m kind of super-excited about this nest! It’s probably commonplace everyday stuff to people who live in other areas, but it’s fresh, new, and exciting to me XD
